CBL CHEMISTRY PROCEDURES

NAVBAR

Brief Probeware Description

Probeware is a general term for a system composed of a probe, an interface (CBL), and a calculator or computer.

  • The probe (pH, conductivity, thermometer, etc.) senses the physical world and sends a signal to the interface.
  • The nterface receives the signal from the probe and converts it to a signal interpretable by a calculator/computer.
  • A calculator/computer runs a program that controls the interface and stores/processes data received from the interaface.

Most high schools do not have the room or budget to equip a lab with computers . If, however, the school's physics, biology, and chemistry teachers combine forces with administrators and community leaders, the requisite funds (~$20,000) for "calculator" based systems might be raised.

You can find details more about prices of probware systems at major suppliers like Vernier, Texas Instruments, PASCO, Team Labs, and Copco.
